Architectural photography often looks like the rendering it follows: precise, perfect, and empty.

These are beautiful images, and we were trained to make them. What they rarely show is a building in use.
A building is experienced through what surrounds it — weather, light, a stretch of road or a field, the view along the horizon or a narrow street — and through the people moving through it.

Each project begins with understanding the design: what is particular about this building, what its architects set out to do. Our work translates that into observation — the same idea, seen in use.
We work on parts of the architectural process: construction, environment, use, ageing. Shot from a fixed position, each frame holds the compositional precision of a photograph while revealing how architecture is inhabited — how spaces are traversed and occupied, how buildings age and transform. Architecture appears not as an isolated object but as something lived. Instead of an assumed objective representation, we allow space for subjectivity, so that architectural experience can be visualised.

We are commissioned for project films, for photographic documentation of a building process over its full duration, and for film contributions to exhibitions. Every project begins with a conversation — write to info@ocap-arch.com.

Ocap is Jakob Argauer and Florian Merdes, both trained in fine art photography at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. Working as Ocap since 2017 for architects, city planners and architectural theorists.
